Where Will It End?

April 2nd, 2009

I usually try to at least do a well cited blog post if I’m going to be speaking on politics and world events but today I’m going to speak from my heart. As I watch the events unfolding in our nation and across the world I can’t help but be scared and a little bit confused. I see our nation’s leaders suggesting and supporting the establishment of a global currency and possibly ditching our currency. I see a President that gives the Queen of England a !@#$%^& iPod, if that doesn’t scream 2nd class I don’t know what does. CEO’s are being replaced not by the shareholders but by the government, Individuals are being targeted by congress through illegal taxes.

As I watch all this I can’t help but be hurt by the people who were supposed to represent me. I can’t help but feel brokeness and sadness because the nation that I have loved ever since I was little seems to be a shell of its former self with a people who are unwilling or unable to do anything about it. The end might be near, not for our Nation but for the freedoms that we take for granted on a daily basis.

A Billion Here

April 1st, 2009

Since President Barak Obama first put his backing behind the Employment Free Choice Act during his presidential campaign it has been one of the most highly contested issues in the American Political landscape. Late last week FedEx became the leader (and hero) in the fight against this potentially devastating piece of legislation by threatening to cancel an order for up to 30 Boeing 777’s citing feasibility and cost effectiveness if the company where to unionize. The retail price of this order is $7.7 billion or about 23% of Boeing’s current market cap. Unionizing rules for FedEx are currently governed by the Railway Labor Act which forces a companywide vote to bring in a union; unlike their main competitor UPS who’s employees can unionize on a location by location basis.

Much can be made of the Teamsters efforts to unionize this company and much can be made over the lack of production that will most likely result if FedEx where to be unionized, however this is one of few times that a true number has been placed on the cost of unionization. By saying that FedEx will not be able to afford the jets if they are unionized, FedEx is saying that each employee if unionized will cost FedEx $27,012.54 in investment capital. Boeing is sure to feel the effect of this cancelation tool; in 2008 Boeing’s net Income was only $2.67 billion with total revenue of $60.9 Billion. The FedEx order would constitute roughly a 12% increase in total revenue.

The cost per employee when translated to other companies is devastating. Wal-Mart, the golden goose of labor unions with its 1.3 million US employees is staggering. If Wal-Mart has to deal with an equivalent cost of investment capital that FedEx does; Wal-Mart will be looking at a loss of $35.1 billion. The increase in cost at places like Wal-Mart will have a crushing ripple effect through our economy effecting every person and corporation along the way.

I felt like a kid on Christmas as drove in to work today because I knew I would be able to download the new Blue October album from iTunes once I got my computer running.  The first thing that struck me was this album was nothing like I thought it would be. The album is much more chill and has an amazing amount of flow to it, even on random most of the songs just flow from one to another. The second thing I noticed is that the vocals aren’t as driving as they have been in the past and the lyrical make seems to be a lot lighter than the last few albums. With that being said, their songs that are dark are incredibly dark and incredibly disturbing.

In true Blue October style you can feel the common threads running through album, it seems that many songs are written about a single incident or person. Also holding strong to their roots Blue October opens and closes with 2 very strong songs, kind of like kicking you as you come in and as you leave. Blue October may have a problem with this album on the radio because really only 2 songs jump out at me as I listen to it and 1 probably isn’t capable of being aired. If you’re a big Blue October fan, you’ll be in surprised by the change in the sound and pace of the album, and if you’re more of a casual fan you’ll probably like the familier sound of the songs without the sometimes hard to handle lyrics.

All in all, a great album, if you’re looking for single to put on your iPod this isn’t your album, but if you want 48 minutes of high quality music, grab this album.

Not Dead Yet

March 22nd, 2009

I know it’s been the better part of 2 months since my last post and to all 1-7 of my loyal readers I’m not going away. The last 2 months have been incredibly insane in my life and my blog got put on the back burner for a while. Since I last posted I totalled my car in a wreck, got a new one, got a new girlfriend, lost my job, found a new one and all sorts of other random things. I also got somewhat burnt out on the whole politcal scene but I am ready to go again and I hope you are ready for my unique and somewhat twisted view on things.

Peace Out

Being Post Racial

February 2nd, 2009

It’s black history month, and all I want to know is where is my white history month? Black history month has always annoyed me, not because I don’t like black people but because I actually listened to what Dr. King said. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” How does having a month to celebrate black people judge a person by the content of their character? How does that help us get away from the lines that divided the races? Why the hell does it @#$%^ matter what color someone is now that a kind of black person is the President?? The reason it matters is because people like Jesse Jackson make way to much money for it to go away. If a black man can be president a person of non-white color can do anything and therefore all affirmative action laws should be taken off the books. I am in the most discriminated group in America, Yes I am a middle class white male. I know every time I check the EEO box on an application I am putting myself at a disadvantage and I’m tired of it. I am tired of losing to an oppertunity to someone because of my skin color. My family didn’t own slaves, I don’t owe any black person anything and I’m sick and tired of people acting like I do. You want me and every other white person to move into a post racial society? Then by all means, all you black leaders, lead the way, and we’ll be more than happy to follow.

Walks like a Duck (Part 5)

January 19th, 2009

It’s been a while since I have post in the “Walks like a Duck” series, but a story popped up on  The Drudge Report that really fit into this series.

5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

Above is the fifth pillar of communism, and in my opinion it is one of the most important. The removal of banking from the private sector is critically important to the development of power in the state. The removal starts to push the people into needing the govenment. When the people have to go to the government for loans and other banking activies it increases the reach of the government into our personal lives. This increased reach allows them to restrict the flow of money too their enemies and increase the flow of money to their friends.
Imagine an America where you have too be apart of a certain political party to obtain a loan. The thought is almost laughable now, but it becomes a strong reality when the government controls the banks.

Pray for Global Warming?

January 19th, 2009

According to this article, “Global Warming” is well, over, if it even was there in the first place. As for me I hope there are more people like this reporter who are willing to speak up on this issue.

No Unions for Big Coffee

January 5th, 2009

I was reading this article from Business Week and I just had to laugh. If a company that is as liberal and “socially responsible” as Starbucks doesn’t want unions because, why should we support the UAW for the auto industry? Starbucks understands that this will drive up the price on an already pricey product and they can’t afford for that to happen. The industries are differant but the principles remain the same. Unions will hurt Big Coffee and the unions are killing Big Auto

Walks like a Duck (part 3)

December 29th, 2008

Another mile down the road we go. The next topic I’m going to discuss will make all the republican/conservative readers go “duh.” While all the democrat/liberal readers will go “No, wait, Obama said he would cut taxes for 95% of the population.”

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
As always the following is taken directly from Obama’s Website:
Families making more than $250,000 will pay either the same or lower tax rates than they paid in the 1990s. Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility. But no family will pay higher tax rates than they would have paid in the 1990s. In fact, dividend rates would be 39 percent lower than what President Bush proposed in his 2001 tax cut.
Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.

There are a lot of people who will read this and say that doesn’t sound so bad but let’s look at the numbers that where crunched by the Wall Street Journal.

Done? Good. Have you ever asked why it is important for the Communists to have a strong middle class and a heavy tax on the upper income? Yes, that’s exactly what a heavy and progressive income tax means. The more you make, you more you get taxed. In a free market system production is in the hands of the people. These people are either able to produce or have enough money to purchase the ability to produce and in a communist system these people must be removed. By implementing a heavy income tax on the top earners you will eventually make it so that the producers can no longer afford to produce. When this happens the means of production moves into the hands of the state.
